Mission Patch

We got a mission patch designed, as the mission was beginning, and the finished product just got delivered. They turned out quite nicely.

There is one symbol to represent each of our individual research areas.

Clockwise from top:
Jocelyn – Brain/puzzle, to represent her research on stress, sleep, exercise, etc.
Sophie – Tensegrity robot, for her robotics work
Allen – Planet orbits, looking at transfer orbits to make the Earth-Mars journey less arduous
Neil – DNA, Neil is doing research on our microbiomes and also looking at bioreactors to produce energy
Me – 3D printer, for my main research area looking at 3D printing in isolated environments
Martha – Plant, to represent her work on Martian gardening

Other than that it is fairly self-explanatory. We and the dome are on a planet that is half Mars and half Earth, each with the other in the sky above. Our commander, Martha, gets a Canadian flag. The star constellation in is in the arrangement of the Hawaiian Islands since that is our home for this eight month.

Shout out to my uncle Ken, among others, for his work on the design.
