For Christmas one of the presents to the crew was a small aquaponics set up. Aquaponics is like hydroponics in that you grow plants without soil and instead use water to transfer nutrients, but adds fish into the mix to supply the nutrients rather than having to artificially add them. So now we have ourselves a hab pet who needs a name.
See Martha’s blog on some reasons to have plants and animals in space – https://martianadventures.wordpress.com/2015/01/08/why-we-need-plants-and-animals-in-space/
I sent the following:
I would suggest
AMEE (see “Red Planet”)
or
Giovanni [or] Schiaparelli (discovered the “canals” of Mars)
or
Percival [or] Lowell (interpreted the canals as signs of intelligent life)
or
Rover [or] Curiosity (!)

How about “Marvin” (the Martian) from Bugs Bunny.
Or maybe a nod to Jules Verne with “Captain Nemo”.
Or “Moby Dick” just to be silly…
